"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

What's wrong with Harry Reid?

For as long as I have known of Senator Harry Reid I have been on the opposite side of political issues. But, as the highest ranking Mormon elected in the United States, I had some respect for him. I say, "HAD" because I no longer have any respect for him WHATSOEVER!

On October 10, this year, Harry gave a speech at Brigham Young University. The next day I read some of the quotes that came from that speech. I was troubled by what I read. This is a guy, as I said, who is a member of my Faith. Yet, he had the audacity to tell the students, in attendance, that their leaders were leading them down the wrong path--AT the Church's own university.

“People in the (Mormon) church have to understand there are issues more important than abortion and gay marriage.” Said Reid.

“These people [Church leaders] have taken members of the church down the path that is the wrong path.” Reid also said.

Then I saw this column (forwarded by my mother) on the subject. This is when I learned of some of the rest of what he said.

The columnist said, "On the campus of the Mormon university, the most senior elected Mormon in the country called evangelicals “anti-Christian.”

Does that mean he believes that they are collectively the anti-Christ? Is he completely ignorant of the biblical import of that word? Is he so politically and religiously intolerant that he would pass such condemning judgment on an entire class of people?"

My deepest apologies to my fellow Christians (from whatever denomination they come from) for Mr. Reid's remarks.

His actions were shameful, at best.

Well, Kelly, what is wrong with Harry Reid is not that his parents brought him up as a Mormon. The problem that "Dingy" Harry has is that his parents brought him into this world without a brain. In my entire life I do not believe that I have ever witnessed a more ineffective and stupidly run Congress than the one run today by Reid and Pelosi.

It is embarrassing and troubling at the same time.

The problem that I have with Senator Kennedy is not that his parents brought him up to be Catholic. The problem that he has is the same one that Reid has. I know plenty of good Catholics that would rather not hear another word from Kennedy, but they do not see that as a reflection on our faith, either. Reid is no better a spokesperson for your faith than Kennedy is for the Catholic Church.

I have always been amazed at the wisdom of the 'Founding Dads' of this country. Jefferson was a Deist, Washington was Episcopalian, Adams was a Puritan, and so forth. What they decided was that the Congress shall make no laws concerning the establishment or the practice of religion. That is the way it is supposed to be.

Nanc, I am glad to know that you all don't pay any attention to Reid.

I spent a fair amount of time living in the bible belt. Some REALLY good people of all faiths back there.

JB, good perspective on that. Yes, I can imagine that Catholics don't consider Kennedy a spokesman for them.

What really irked me was that he came to the Church's own university and told the audience NOT to listen to its leaders on certain subjects...that they are wrong.

The guy has got to go!!!

Heh, good luck with that. They have kept Kennedy on the public dole for YEARS and his personal food stamps are a lot more expensive than the ones that he pushes on the Senate floor.

Yes, I understand Kennedy seems pretty much untouchable...Mitt tried to run him out of office.

Hey, Patrick, glad you liked the post. Reid is the reason I won't vote for someone just because he is Mormon.

..oh and thanks for the link.

I dang sure am not going to vote for someone that is Catholic in name. I like Catholics in general, like I like a lot of other people, but I share that religion.

That being said, it is my experience that people that say they have one religion and then run for office frequently turn out to have another religion "on the side." That is the religion of "what I want and what I think would get me some votes."

Harry Reid is a perfect paradigm of the theory that sh*t rises to the top.

He's corrupt, venal, weasely. An utter dusaster as a representative of the electorate, and as an American.

His religion has nothing to do with that. His empty soul has everything to do with it.

Yech!

Hey, benning, welcome!

Reid is really showing his true colors on all fronts.

Phel, I have known some very good Mormons who were Democrats. I even voted for one in the past. He was a heck of a lot better than any of his opponents, who were also Mormon.

That being said, I did not just push Reid aside because he was Democrat. I now don't care if he is a Dem or a Republican...he is a disgrace...period!

To me Reid is a guy not necessarily gifted with intellect but is a well accomplished sleazy lawyer. Intellect is not required to be a political low-life.

It reminds me what I heard about plumbers... they make good money not so much for what they know but for what they're willing to do. Same with lawyers and politicians. ( My apologies to plumbers everywhere for the comparison ).
